BIRDS — On Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, Roscoe William “Bill” Johnson, loving husband and father, passed away. He was 73.
Bill was born in Birds, in 1947 to Marvin and Zelda (Ferguson) Johnson. In 1968, he married Cathy Goodwin and together, they raised their two children, Shelley and Matt.
Bill was preceded in death by: his parents; and brother, Marvin Wayne Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife, Cathy; daughter and son-in-law, Rusty and Shelley Ridgley of Parrish, Florida; son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Jessica Johnson of Huntingburg, Indiana; and four grandchildren, Hayden Ridgley, Sydney Ridgley, Evalynn Johnson and Zachary Johnson.
Bill’s career allowed him to live and work all over the United States. After his corporate career, Bill was a serial entrepreneur starting many small businesses and spending time with his family. Bill graduated from Lawrenceville High School, earned his A.S. from Vincennes University, B.S. from Regis University and M.S. from the University of Denver. Bill’s interests included drag racing, hunting, woodworking and banana pudding – not necessarily in that order. Always quick with a funny story, Bill enjoyed spending time with friends, family and was most proud of his four grandchildren.
Due to the increased public safety measures being enforced by the State of Illinois, funeral services will be private.
Bill will be laid to rest in the Seceder-Maxwell Cemetery, rural Flat Rock.
