ROBINSON — Irene Swenson, age 100, of Robinson, died on Sept. 13, 2020, at Heritage Health in Robinson.
She was born Nov. 25, 1919, near Dresser Junction in Polk County, Wisconsin, the daughter of G. Lawrence and Jennie Anderson. She married Donald V. Swenson on Feb. 14, 1948.
She attended the Paxton Schools before graduating from PCHS in 1937 and soon found employment at the telephone office. She did some temporary office work in St. Louis, Missouri, before becoming a school secretary at Grant School District at Fairview.
Though she was a lifelong Lutheran, locally, she found a church family with the Robinson First Christian Church. She was a member of: the Mary Circle; the Home Extension in both Ford and Crawford counties; NARFE Chapter 0854 in Rantoul; as well as the Paxton Senior Citizen Foundation’s Share and Care Center where she served as a board member.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Donald; her parents; brothers, Virgil Anderson, Cyril Anderson and Rev. Glen Anderson; sister, Doris Grumish; and step-grandson, Matthew Schwab.
She is survived by: her daughter and son-in-law, Cecilie “Cooky” & K.E. Newell; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Terry Swenson; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
Memorials may be made to either the Paxton First Lutheran Church or to the Robinson First Christian Church.
Burial will be in the Glen Cemetery in Paxton.
