SUMNER — Carol Ann (League) Paddick, age 78 of Sumner, passed away peacefully on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020 at Lavender Ridge Assisted Living for Memory Care in Olney.

Carol was born in Platte, South Dakota, on Aug. 28, 1942 to Homer H. and Dorothea (Adams) League. She married Donovan “Don” Paddick on Dec. 16, 1960 in Puyallup, Washington. Together, they raised their family in Crawford County.

Those preceding her in death include: her parents, Homer and Dorothea League; in-laws, Wilvin and Lovel Paddick; brother, Kenneth League; nephew, Jason League; and brother-in-law, Raymond Grove.

Carol is survived by: her husband of 59 years, Don; three children, Katrina (Jay) Plese; Donnie (Tammy) Paddick; and Gayle (David) Appel; five grandchildren, Bridgitte, Matthew and Macey Paddick; and Grace and Grant Appel; one great-grandchild, Paisley Paddick; one sister, Rita (Ken) Stancato; two brothers, Fran (Karen) League; and Homer “Gene” (Sharon) League; three sisters-in-law, Judy League; Barb Grove; and Phyllis (Jerry) Croslow; one brother-in-law, Garry (Paula) Paddick; and many nieces and nephews.

Carol moved from South Dakota with her family to Puyallup, Washington, for her senior year of high school and graduated from Puyallup High School. She met her husband Don while he was stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Prior to moving back to Illinois, she worked in the banking field. After raising her family, she worked at Groff Equipment and later as auto finance manager for Wiseman’s Dealership in Robinson and Wilson’s in Vincennes, Indiana. She was actively involved in church teaching Sunday School, serving at Beulah Bible Camp in Eldorado, and was a leader in Lawrence County 4-H. She was a member of the Bethlehem New Light Church in Sumner. Traveling around the United States became a special joy for Don and Carol, they have traveled to 48 states, missing Delaware and Rhode Island.

Carol was lovingly cared for in her home by her husband Don, with the assistance of Becky Hahn. A special thank you to all of the wonderful and caring staff of Lavender Ridge who helped with her care for the last 15 months.

A public walk-through visitation will be at the Cunningham Funeral Home in Bridgeport on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. 

A private funeral will then be held and Carol will be laid to rest at Waggoner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Chauncey Community Club directly or through the funeral home.
