In the latest turn of the back-and-forth dealings between the Illinois High School Association, Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health, the idea of moving the basketball season to the spring – right along with several other sports that it would directly conflict with – was suggested by Pritzker, but the IHSA has said no thanks.

In a surprising and somewhat unprecedented move, the Illinois High School Association Wednesday decided to go against guidance from state officials and have decided to proceed with basketball as part of their winter sports activities.

SPRINGFIELD – Gov. JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Public Health announced new guidelines for youth and adult winter sports on Tuesday that temporarily put a halt to competitive basketball, hockey and wrestling events.
Although participants in those sports may continue with non-contact training and drills, they will not be allowed to participate in competitive games or matches.
