LHS X-C runners have tough time in invitational
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's cross country teams struggled Saturday, in their own invitational meet on the three-mile course near Lawrenceville City Park.

The Indians placed fourth among five full teams in both the boys and girls meets.

Boys meet

Salem placed all five scorers in the top 10 to win with 25 points, ahead of Olney, with 35. Dieterich (76), LHS (98) and Newton (124) completed the field, as Mount Carmel and Odin did not have enough runners to record team scores.

Red Hill High School junior Connor Holmes, generally the Indians' first or second finisher, did not complete the race.

Sophomore Dylan Volkman, who placed seventh in 17:42, was Lawrenceville's only top-10 finishers.

Brandt Cochran (23rd in 20:14), Noah Volkman (24th in 20:41), Slayton Dorney (29th in 20:55) and Harry Loeb (20:59) scored for the LHS. In addition, Tyler Tewell ran 33rd in 21:12.

Salem runners Caden Owens (17:04) and Brenner Webster (17:07) led the Wildcats to the win with a 1-2 finish.

Girls meet

All seven Olney runners finished among the top 19 as the Tigers defeated Mount Carmel, 41-51, to claim top honors. Newton edged LHS, 78-82, for third place while Salem (145) completed the field. Dieterich did not have enough runners to qualify for the team standings.

Twins Hannah (fourth in 20:37) and Heather Holmes (eighth in 21:35) placed in the top 10 for the Indians. Maddy Liberman (21st in 23:55), Rosie Aguirre (23rd in 24:38) and Chelsea Shoulders (26th in 24:51) also scored. Macey Paddick (29th in 25:26) completed the LHS efforts.

Lawrenceville's next meet is Thursday at the Robinson Invitational,
