Lawrenceville's Abby Higginbotham hits against the Maroons.
County spikers suffer losses
Both Lawrence County High School volleyball teams fell in straight games Thursday evening.

Visiting Robinson topped Lawrenceville for the second time this season, 25-14, 25-13. At Toledo, host Cumberland stopped Red Hill in similar fashion, 25-12, 25-13.

At LHS, the Maroons controlled both games from the mid-point on.

"What I see on the court is something totally different from what I see in practice," said LHS coach Trinity Britton, whose team fell to 0-12. "In practice I see girls who are confident, who want the ball and they come to the ball hard, with intentions. What I see in games is girls who don't want to be the ones who make the mistake. They're real timid and we have to work on it."

Abby Higginbotham served three aces for the Indians and also led the team with four kills, while Kourtney Osmon had three.

Brianna Mefford topped the squad with five digs, with Morgan Mefford, Higginbotham and Amanda Seed contributing four apiece. Osmon had a team-high four assists and Higginbotham two.

It was the second win for the Maroons (11-1) over the Tribe this season. At Robinson on Sept. 5, the Maroons scored a 25-15, 25-14 win.

Robinson won Thursday's junior varsity match, 25-12, 25-14.

Courtney Ridgley served a pair of aces for LHS, which is now 1-6. Brianna Mefford had three kills. Haylee Croslow had a team-high three digs, while Natalee Reynolds and Sidney Sullens both accounted for two.

The Indians will travel to Newton for a Little Illini Conference match on Tuesday.

Red Hill

At Cumberland, the Pirates rolled to the win in two games.

Emilee Ellingsworth served two aces to lead RHHS (1-9, 1-3 LIC), and added two kills.

McKenzie Wolfe and Kenedee Whittaker added two kills each. Whittaker topped the squad with six assists.

Cumberland was a 25-13, 25-7 winner in the junior varsity match.

The Salukis will host Vincennes Rivet on Monday.
