High school cross country
Indians' Volkman finishes first at Olney
OLNEY - Lawrenceville High School's Dylan Volkman was the individual winner Tuesday, while the Indians placed second in a three-team cross country meet at Olney Central College.

The LHS girls team placed third in a three-team meet.

Boys meet

Volkman, a sophomore, beat Olney's Dalyn Brach to the finish line, as both runners finished in 18:15. Lawrenceville's Connor Holmes was third, three seconds behind the other two on the 3.1-mile course.

"Dylan Volkman and Connor Holmes ran neck-to-neck with Dalyn Brach of Olney until the last 100 meters, where Volkman won the sprint for the finish," LHS co-coach Bill Bandy said. "It was a season-best performance for both Volkman and Holmes."

Tristan Davis ran 10th for the Indians in 20:16. Harry Loeb (12th in 21:14) and Noah Volkman (13th in 21:15) completed the scoring for the Indians, a cooperative team from both Lawrenceville and Red Hill high schools.

Tyler Tewell (14th in 21:21), Brandt Cochran (15th in 21:23), Wyatt Whewell (20th in 23:26), Jag Rich (21st in 23:32) and Gage Hulen (22nd in 26:44) also ran for the Indians.

Girls meet

The Indians had only six healthy runners, one more than their race last week.

Olney won with 32 points, while Mount Carmel edged the Indians, 47-5, for second.

"It was much batter than the 14-point loss we suffered to Mount Carmel last week," Bandy said.

Simona Cargnino, an exchange student from Italy who runs for Olney, won the race in 20:17. Mount Carmel's Tyra Buss (20:56) was second, while the Indians' Hannah Holmes ran third in 22:01.

Maddy Liberman (8th in 24:03), Heather Holmes (9th in 24:11), Chelsea Shoulders (15th in 26:10), Macey Paddick (17th in 27:04) and Rosie Aguirre (18th in 27:24) completed the LHS lineup.

The Indians will return to Olney Central College Saturday morning to take part in the Olney Invitational.
