Robinson 53, Red Hill 6
Salukis can't slow Richart
ROBINSON - Jason Richart might not be a one-man team, but he was close to that Friday night.

The Robinson running back rolled up 314 yards rushing and scored five of the Maroons' eight touchdowns in a 53-6 thrashing of Red Hill High School's football team.

The Maroons (2-0) scored two touchdowns in every quarter on the way to the win.

"Hat's off to Robinson," said Red Hill coach Billy Gray, after his team slipped to 0-2. "They're a great ball club. They're well-disciplines and well-coached and they're going to make some noise this year."

TD runs of 21 and 11 yards by Richart gave the Maroons a two-touchdown lead eight minutes into the game.

The Salukis then moved 70 yards in 12 plays to cut the lead to 13-6. A 32-yard pass from Dalton Murray to Tristan Holtz was a key play in the march. Murray capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run on third-and-goal.

Robinson dominated the game from a statistical standpoint, as it racked up 496 yards on the ground and 549 yards in total offense. Richart later had TD runs 3, 31 and 75 yards. Joe Smith scored on a 64-yard run for the Maroons, while Logan Miller had a 2-yard TD run and Jake Powell scored from three yards out.

The Salukis rushed 37 times for 121 yards, with Holtz gaining 53 yards on five carries to lead the way. Cole Westall carried six times for 32 yards while Murray totaled 28 yards on 15 rushes.

Gray said the Salukis were outmanned at the line of scrimmage.

"You can scheme all night long, but if you don't have the horses up front to get to where you want to go, it's not going to matter," Gray said. "That's kind of what we ran into tonight. The kids kept saying at halftime, 'They're bigger and stronger.' That comes from the off-season. We're working toward that but we're not there yet."

The Salukis will host Edwards County (0-2) in their first Little Illini Conference Eastern Division game Friday. Robinson will host Lawrenceville (2-0) in a matchup within the LIC's Egyptian Division.
