City to host 8-and-unders
Games Saturday and Sunday in Lawrenceville
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville will host an 8-and-under baseball tournament Saturday and Sunday. Games will be played on the Lawrenceville Little League diamond in Lawrenceville City Park, as well as at Phil Alsman Memorial Field.

Two Lawrence County teams - the Thunder and the Lightning - will take part in the seven-team event. Both Lawrence County teams are made up of players from both eastern and western Lawrence County.

Pool play games will start at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Phil Alsman Field, and at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Little League diamond.

A bracket tournament will begin Saturday afternoon, and conclude with three games Sunday on the Little League diamond.

The Lawrence County Thunder will play in Pool A, along with Robinson and Vincennes Orange. The Lawrence County Lightning will play in Pool B, along with teams from Mount Carmel, Olney and Princeton, Ind.

Saturday's Pool A games on the Little League diamond are as follows.

9 a.m. - Lawrence County Thunder vs. Vincennes Orange.

10:45 a.m. - Robinson vs. Lawrence County Thunder.

12:30 p.m. - Vincennes Orange vs. Robinson.

Saturday's Pool B games at Phil Alsman Field are as follows.

8:30 a.m. - Lawrence County Lightning vs. Mount Carmel.

10:15 a.m. - Olney vs. Princeton, Ind.

Noon - Mount Carmel vs. Olney.

1:45 p.m. - Princeton vs. Lawrence County Lightning.

Teams will be seeded at the conclusion of pool play for the single elimination tournament.

The tournament will start at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, with a pair of games. The sixth-seeded team will meet the seventh-seeded team at Phil Alsman Field. The second and fifth-seeded teams will play on the Little League diamond.

Saturday's action will conclude with a 5:45 p.m. game on the Little League diamond between teams that are seeded third and fourth.

Semifinal play will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday on the Little League diamond with the top-seeded team meeting the winner of the game between the teams that are seeded sixth and seventh. Sunday's 3 p.m. semifinal game will feature the winners of the other quarterfinal games.

The tournament is set to conclude with the championship game at 5 p.m. Sunday on the Little League diamond.
