Illinois District 1 12-year-old All-Stars
Rally keeps Lawrence Co. alive
OLNEY - The Lawrence County Little League's 12-year-old All-Star team staved off elimination in the District 1 tournament at Musgrove Park Wednesday, scoring three times in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 6-5 win over Salem.

The victory leaves Lawrenceville with a 2-1 record in the tournament, and needing to defeat host Olney both tonight and Friday to win the championship and advance to section tournament action next week, also at Olney.

The Lawrence Countians trailed 5-3 entering their final at-bat, but quickly turned the game around. Connor O'Dell worked a walk to lead off the inning, and Drew Moore followed with a home run to left-center field to tie the game. Landen Ray also walked and with one out Cade Benson singled to put runners on first and second.

Lawrence County won the game when Blaine Hesler came through with his first hit of the tournament, a single up the middle to score Ray.

Benson finished with two hits to lead Lawrence County's six-hit attack. O'Dell, Moore, Keegan Meek and Hesler added one hit apiece.

Dylan McGuire pitched the first 4 1/3 innings for Lawrence County, while O'Dell worked 1 2/3 innings on the mound and was credited with the win.

McGuire allowed four hits, four walks and four runs while striking out eight Salem batters. O'Dell gave up a run and a hit while striking out two and fanning none.

Lawrence County and Olney are slated to play at 7 p.m. today. Should Lawrence County win, Friday's final game would also take place at 7.

Wednesday's 6-5 win was Lawrence County's second over Salem in three days. The Lawrence County squad opened the tournament with a 6-1 conquest of Salem on Monday.
