Salukis overcome big deficit, advance
NOBLE - Red Hill High School's baseball team overcame a 6-1 deficit Monday to keep its season alive.

The Salukis (4-11) scored three times in the top of the seventh to defeat host Noble In the opening round of the Illinois High School Association Class A regional tournament, 9-6.

The Salukis, seeded fifth, will travel to top-seeded host Edwards County for a semifinal game at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"We rallied in the fifth inning and decided we wanted to win this game more than they did," Red Hill coach Mike Wallace said. "We took advantage of their walks and errors and came up with some key hits with runners on base."

Jacob Wirth and Dalton Murray both doubled and singled for the Salukis, while Ryan Kolb and Steven Ramsaran both single twice.

Murray plated three runs for the Salukis, while Wirth drove in a pair and Ramsaran one. Kolb scored three of the Red Hill runs and Ramsaran scored twice.

Murray, Noah Puntney and Wirth pitched a combined one-hitter for Red Hill. Wirth was awarded the win after pitching three innings of no-hit baseball. He walked nobody and fanned four.

Murray started, but lasted only two-thirds of an inning, He gave up no hits, but allowed three runs, one of which was earned. He walked three batters and fanned one.

Puntney put out the first-inning fire and lasted 3 1/3 innings in relief. He allowed the only Noble hit and three runs, none of which were earned. Puntney worked around two walks while fanning three hitters.

The Salukis overcame four errors in earning the win.

Jordan Brown pitched the first 5 1/3 innings for the Wildcats, who finished 5-11. Hunter Kinkade tossed 2/3 of an inning in relief, while Matt Sash gave up three runs in the seventh and was charged with the loss.

Wednesday's game between the Salukis and Edwards County will be a rematch of an April 22 contest, which the Lions won, 13-4. The winner will play either second-seeded Cisne or third-seeded Hutsonville in Saturday's 11 a.m. championship game at Edwards County High School.
