LHS softball team has fun, beats Olney
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrenceville High School's softball team has been rolling along for more than a week, but Monday's 4-2 Little Illini Conference win over visiting Olney at Phil Alsman Memorial Field was easily the most impressive.

While the win was the fifth in six games for LHS (5-7, 2-5 LIC), it dropped the Tigers to 14-5 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

"It's a lot more fun to win," LHS coach Dave Berry said. "And being from Olney, it was even more enjoyable for me."

LHS scored three times on two hits and an Olney error in the fourth inning to turn the game in its favor.

"The girls played great," Berry said. "They came around. Shyloh Hearn pitched a great game and we beat a very good team tonight."

Hearn scattered six hits while walking two batters and fanning one. Both Olney runs were earned.

Olney pitcher Elizabeth Walker also gave up six hits, with no walks and seven strikeouts. All four LHS runs were unearned.

The Indians scored in the first when Heidi Litherland doubled, Amerae Miller singled and Heather Miller was safe on an outfield error with two out.

The Tribe took control in the fourth by scoring three times after the first two batters were retired. Sarah Kocher reached on an error and Samantha Mason was hit by a pitch. Litherland's base hit scored Kocher and Mason came home on an error before Miller's single scored Litherland.

Litherland doubled and singled to lead the LHS attack, while Amerae Miller singled twice. Heather Miller added a double while McKenzi Kelly singled.

Rachel Wisner's solo homer to left field to lead off the sixth inning cut the LHS lead to 4-2 and was the highlight of the game for the Tigers.

Hearn pitched around a base hit in the sixth and an error in the seventh to nail down the victory.

LHS will travel to Noble for non-conference play today before entertaining Hutsonville on Thursday.
