South Knox clubs RHHS baseball team
BRIDGEPORT - South Knox, Ind.'s Tyler Jones belted a grand slam in the opening inning Saturday, then did the rest on the mound.

Jones's bases-loaded homer was one of nine extra-base hits for the Spartans, who steamrolled Red Hill High School's baseball team, 17-4, in a game that was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

South Knox (1-4) scored seven times in the opening inning, and went on to score at least once in every inning thereafter.

"We had a poor effort," said Red Hill coach Mike Wallace, after his team fell to 1-3. "I really don't think we showed up to play baseball today."

The Salukis managed 10 hits, nine of them against Jones through four innings. However, Red Hill was unable to score until tallying twice in the bottom of the fourth, when it already trailed 13-0.

Dalton Murray bashed a pair of doubles to lead the Red Hill attack, while Noah Puntney and Corey Burkhardt both singled twice. Steven Ramsaran, Grant Gaither and Isiah Cavins all added base hits.

"Some of our younger guys pinch-hit today and did a better job than some of the starters," Wallace said. "So it might be time to shake up the lineup."

Jones scattered nine hits and three walks while giving up two runs through four innings. He fanned six Red Hill batters. Jordan Montgomery pitched the final innings for the Spartans and allowed a run on a hit while walking three.

Ryan Kolb started for Red Hill, and pitched into the second inning before departing. Kolb allowed eight runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked four and fanned none.

Trey Aguirre pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief for the Salukis, and gave up 10 runs, nine of which were earned. Aguirre allowed 11 hits, walked a batter and fanned two.

Murray got the final out for Red Hill.
