Cisne 59, Red Hill 49
Late run lifts Lions past Salukis
CISNE - Homestanding Cisne used an 8-0 run midway through the final period Saturday evening, and held off Red Hill High School's basketball team, 59-49.

The loss was the seventh in a row for the Salukis (3-18), who were playing for the first time since Jan. 21.

There were seven lead changes and five ties in the game, but the Runnin' Lions (19-5) claimed the lead for good about a minute into the final period.

The Salukis closed to within 43-42 on a 3-pointer by Jake Allen with 6:15 remaining, but couldn't withstand a 10-1 run by the home team.

"There was about a three-minute stretch in the fourth quarter where we let their crowd kind of dictate things," said Red Hill coach Bryan Havill. "Our kids got flustered and started worrying about things outside the game, like the officiating, which was fine. We started worrying about other things and when that happens, this is what happens."

The lead changed hands twice in the opening period, when Matt Young tallied eight points to help Red Hill stay to within 15-13.

The game remained tight in the second period. Young's 15-footer 1:41 before halftime lifted the Salukis into a 23-21 lead, but the Lions' Bjorn Fjermedal scored inside to start a 6-0 Cisne spree that led to a 28-25 lead at halftime.

Cisne built its lead to as big as five points in the third period, but Red Hill continued to bounce back. Murray hit twice from the foul stripe to bring RHHS to within 34-33 with 2:39 to play, and Young followed with a hoop to give the Salukis a 35-34 edge.

Dustin Atteberry traded baskets with Young, but Atteberry scored again with 1:20 remaining to give the Lions a 38-37 led entering the final period.

Tanner Stoltz hit from long range at the outset of the fourth quarter to give the Salukis their final lead, 39-38. Austin Atteberry's three-point play started a 5-0 Cisne spurt, giving the Lions the lead for good.

Red Hill was still within 45-43 midway through the final period, before Dustin Atteberry started the game-deciding 8-0 run. Erick Powell's two free throws with 2:28 to go gave the Lions a 10-point lead, 53-43, and the Salukis got no closer than eight the rest of the way.

"We have to learn from this," said Havill. "We've got a chance to see them again in the regional and it would be on a neutral court. We'll have to play for four quarters and not have any three-or-four-minute lulls like we did tonight."

Young, who scored 14 points in the first half, totaled 25 to lead all players. He hit 10 of 14 shots from the floor, but was just four of nine from the foul line. Allen, who finished with 11, was the only other Red Hill player in double figures,

Tanner Stoltz grabbed nine rebounds and Allen eight for Red Hill, who held a 32-25 advantage on the boards.

Turnovers again hurt the Salukis, who had 12 in the first half and finished the game with 20.

Dustin Atteberry topped the Lions with 22 points. Austin Atteberry added 13 points, while Fjermedal contributed 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Cisne won the junior varsity game, 35-25. Zach Breault led Red Hill with seven points.

The Salukis will host Lawrenceville Tuesday, in a game that was scheduled for last Friday but was postponed by foul weather.
