Lady Salukis suffer first loss
BRIDGEPORT - Visiting Olney used long-range marksmanship to hand Red Hill High School's girls basketball team its first loss of the season Monday.

The Lady Tigers made nine 3-pointers among their 21 baskets on the way to a 57-30 conquest of the Lady Salukis (2-1, 0-1 Little Illini Conference).

Kelsey Shipman and Marley Miller both made four 3-pointers for the Lady Tigers (3-3, 1-0 LIC), who overcame an early 6-2 deficit to win going away. Olney led by scores of 11-8, 27-15 and 38-20 at the quarter stop.

"You don't very often come across a team that's just better than you in every phase of the game," said RHHS coach Traci Gray. "They pretty much were."

Taylor Paulin topped the Lady Salukis with 11 points in the loss. Dakotah Moan added nine points, and Tori Paulin eight, after hitting a pair of 3-point baskets in the first two minutes of the game. Jamesha Western rounded out the RHHS scoring with a basket.

Shipman finished with 18 points for the Lady Tigers, including 15 after halftime. Miller scored 12 of her 14 points in the first half, while Mackenzie Sechrest netted 10 points.

Gray says the Lady Salukis are better off for playing the Lady Tigers.

"It was a great experience for us," she said. "We have to build on it. I'm always telling the kids that it's not a sprint, but a marathon. This game should make us a better team come regional time."

There was no junior varsity game on Monday.

The Lady Salukis are scheduled to play Thursday at Cumberland.
