Lady Indians top Palestine, 40-35, in LIC opener
PALESTINE - Lawrenceville High School's girls basketball team built a comfortable lead in its first Little Illini Conference game of the season Monday, then held off host Palestine, 40-35.

The Lady Indians (2-5, 1-0 LIC) got 12 points each from McKenzi Kelly and Kourtney Osmon, in the process of snapping a three-game losing streak.

The Lady Indians trailed 11-10 at the end of the opening period, but outscored the Lady Pioneers 18-8 in the second period to lead 28-19 at halftime. LHS maintained a lead of 36-27 entering the final period, in which it was outscored 8-4.

Osmon scored all of her points in the first half for the Lady Indians, while Kelly scored at least one basket in every quarter.

Reghan Robinson added eight points for the Lady Indians, while Cailyn Andrews finished with four points. Jordan Walker and Abby Higginbotham both added baskets.

Calee Fulling, who scored 12 points, was the only Palestine player to reach double figures.

The Lady Indians held an advantage in the turnover department, as they committed 20 while forcing Palestine (3-4, 0-1 LIC) into 30.

Palestine outrebound LHS, 33-24. Osmon led LHS with eight rebounds, while Andrews snared four. Andrews and Kelly both had four assists. Osmon led LHS with eight steals, while Kelly had seven and Kary Trinkle three.

Palestine handed the LHS junior varsity squad its first loss of the season, 22-21. Andrews and Kelsey Ferrell both scored six points for the Lady Indians (3-1).

The Lady Indians will host Marshall in Little Illini Conference play Thursday.

Marshall handed LHS a 51-16 setback in the Robinson Thanksgiving Invitational last week.
