IHSA cross country sectional
Season comes to end for Indian runners
EFFINGHAM - Cross county season came to an end for Lawrenceville High School's boys team, as well as two members of the girls team, at the Illinois High School Association Class A sectional on the three-mile course at Mid-America Motorworks Saturday.

Lawrenceville's boys team finished 19th in the field with 485 points, ahead of only Mount Carmel, with 523.

In the girls race, LHS runners Katie Liberman and Andie Scherer - both seniors at Red Hill High School - failed to advance as individuals.

Boys meet

The Indians' top runner was Connor Holmes, a Red Hill sophomore, who placed 69th in the field of 156 runners, in 17:29. Teammate Zach Kocher, a senior at Lawrenceville High School, was right behind as he ran 71st in 17:32.

Dylan Volkman (119th in 18:41), Tristan Davis (142nd in 19:52) and Harry Loeb (149th in 20:39) also scored for LHS. Wyatt Whewell (150th in 20:41) and Tyler Tewell (153rd in 21:19) completed the Indians' lineup.

Champaign St. Thomas More topped Mount Zion, 48-69, to take team honors. Shelbyville (96), Monticello (162) and Tolono Unity (168) also qualified for this weekend's state finals in Peoria.

Mount Zion Senior Jake Brown was the individual champion, covering the course in 15:13.

Girls race

Liberman ran 44th in a field of 159, posting a time of 20:50 for the Indians. She narrowly missed a spot in the state finals, as one of the top seven runners not on qualifying teams. Liberman missed out by two spots, as she placed ninth. Lawrenceville's Andie Scherer ran 96th in 22:15.

Decatur St. Teresa dominated the competition and won the meet with 31 points. Also earning berths in Peoria were Monticello (56), St. Joe-Ogden (135), Champaign St. Thomas More (175) and Tolono Unity (182).

Decatur St. Teresa junior Rachel Devereux was the individual champion in 18:11, nine seconds ahead of teammate Ivy Handley.
