American Legion baseball
Vandalia whips Post 28
VANDALIA - Lawrenceville Post 28's American Legion baseball team has a lot of ground to make up in a short period of time.

Host Vandalia Post 95 had two big innings Sunday, en route to a 13-1 thumping of Post 28. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled, due to the extreme heat. Post 28 returns to Vandalia Saturday to compete in the district tournament.

Vandalia never looked back after tallying twice in the opening inning. Post 95 (4-11) added five runs in the second inning and six in the third.

Seven Lawrenceville errors led to five unearned runs for Post 95.

Michael Turner had three of the five Post 28 hits, as he singled in the second, fifth and seventh innings. Ethan Spade belted a solo homer in the sixth inning to account for the only Post 28 run. Zack Marshall's single in the fourth inning was the only other hit for Post 28.

Logan Blair gave up nine hits in 2 2/3 innings on the mound for Post 28. He was charged with 12 runs, seven of which were earned, while walking four batters and striking out two. Dale Murray tossed the final 3 1/3 innings for Post 28, giving up four hits. He allowed four runs, one of which was earned, while walking none and fanning one.

Post 28 travels to Albion today for the final game of the regular season. Post 28 was a 4-0 winner over Albion when the team's met at Lawrenceville on May 5.
