Sumner Fall Festival only a month away
SUMNER - The annual Sumner Fall Festival, set for a month from now, Sept. 5, 6 and 7, will have a theme of "Working Hand-In-Hand For A Better Community."

As in past years, the Royal Family Coronation and Prince and Princess contest is planned for the first evening, along with gospel music.

On Friday, activities will include the baby contest, car cruise-in, and sock hop, with music by Hot Rod Lincoln.

A variety of activities are scheduled for Saturday, including several new events, such as a hot dog eating contest. The annual parade will again begin at 2 p.m. and run through the downtown area.

Styll Country, will play Saturday evening.

Booster club members will be selling tickets for a drawing. The first prize winner will get $500 in lottery tickets with the second prize winner receiving $250 in cash. Third prize is a picnic table that is also wheelchair accessible. The table was made and donated by Sumner resident Galen Stevenson. Tickets are $2 each or six for $10.

Youth raffle prizes are: $100 cash for first place, $50 cash for second place, and $25 cash each for third and fourth place. These tickets are $1 each or six for $5.

A free merchants drawing is also set for Saturday. Participants must be present to win and people may only register once.

Festival officials are seeking parade entries as well as food and game vendors. People should contact Cindy Bridwell (618-838-1575), Dee Joines (618-843-0597), or Michelle Delong (618-554-7273) with questions about a parade entry or a vendor booth.

A booster club meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. today at city hall.
