Lawrence County gets funds to replace bridge
EFFINGHAM - Lawrence County was among several Illinois counties to receive state funds for construction projects.

On Thursday, Gov. Pat Quinn announced more than $14.5 million in capital investments for construction projects in Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence and Richland counties.

The upgrades are part of Governor Quinn's agenda to create jobs and drive Illinois' economy forward.

"These construction projects will improve transportation safety and efficiency in the region," Governor Quinn said. "Additionally, they will employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy, as well."

The projects will be administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

In Lawrence County, a bridge carrying a road over the Allison drainage ditch, five miles east of Pinkstaff, will be replaced for $232,917 by Allendale Gravel Co., the lowest of two bidders.

Clay County received funds to rehabilitate two bridges on U.S. Route 50 near Flora at a cost of $689,394.

In Richland County, bridge repairs, pavement patching and resurfacing will be done on Illinois Route 130 from U.S. Route 50 to the Edwards County line by Howell Paving, Inc. of Mattoon for $4,507,921. Also, a bridge carrying County Highway 11 over a creek about 2.5 miles east of Noble will be replaced for $242,116 by Perry County Construction Company of Herrin, the lowest of two bidders.

Effingham received funds to have southbound Interstate 57, from the Little Wabash River to the Fayette County line resurfaced. Structural repairs will also be made. Cost of the project is $7,552,584.

In Jasper County, parking lots will be repaired and new gates installed at the Newton Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area for $1,311,382 by Howell Paving.
