Junior Ranger Series begins Saturday
VINCENNES - Staff and volunteers at the George Rogers Clark National Historical Park are again hosting its Junior Ranger Series.

The Summer Junior Ranger Series will consist of four different events, one every month, all dealing with different topics and interests. All four events are free and open to the public.

The first event is Saturday, from 1-4 p.m. (EST) at the Visitor Center, 401 S. Second Street in Vincennes.

Entitled "Frontiersman Day," the first in the series will show children what their lives might have been like had they lived on the frontier during the 18th century.

"Frontiersman Day" will feature activities such as flint and steel fire-starting demonstrations, playing 1700s games, cooking food in the Old Northwest Territory, how to fire a long rifle, and more, according to park officials.

Other Summer Junior Ranger Series events will be "Natural Resources Day" on July 20 at Oubache Trails Park; "Three Forts Day," on Aug. 17, and "Architecture Day," on Sept. 14. All of the events are on a Saturday.

Organizers said children will earn certificates for completing each separate Junior Ranger Day event.

For more information about the events, call Jason Collins at 812-882-1776, Ext. 207.
