Library's summer reading program kicks off June 6
LAWRENCEVILLE - Lawrence Public Library has announced its lineup for its Summer reading program entitled "Have Book-Will Travel."

The program will begin on June 6, at Parkside Elementary School and will feature Madcap Puppets presenting "The Cinderella Files." The west side doors will be open at 1:30 p.m. with the program at 2 p.m.

Other summer performers include Animal Tales "Animal Underground," Magician Daniel Lusk, Juggling Jeff from St. Louis, and Nitro Joe's Science Show.

The library will host the annual pet show on July 18.

The eight-week program is intended for children preschool age to 12 years old.

Parents, grandparents, or caregivers are encouraged to register children now at the library. They may also register as late as the first show. There is no cost to attend. Children will receive a book bag that includes a reading log and other materials.

Library officials saido participate in the weekly prize incentives, independent readers are asked to read 15 minutes each day and record their reading time on a log sheet.

Parents of younger children may keep track of their reading time with their children. Each week in which they meet this reading goal they will receive a prize.

Children who meet their reading goal for five (no program July 4) weeks will have a chance to win the grand prize drawing of two Holiday World and Splashin' Safari tickets at the final party "Cookies Around the World" on July 25, at 2 p.m. at the library. Six names will be drawn and they will receive two tickets each.
