Focus now on niece charged in Westall slaying
LAWRENCEVILLE - With the trial for Tyler R. McQueen, one of two people charged in the May 2012 slaying of Robert V. Westall complete, the focus is now on Helen Marie Westall.

McQueen was recently found guilty in Lawrence County Circuit Court of first degree murder.

More than a year ago, when McQueen was arrested, Helen Westall, 48, was also arrested and charged with solicitation of murder and solicitation of murder for hire. She allegedly offered McQueen $10,000 and a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass in exchange for killing her uncle, 78-year-old Robert Westall.

Helen Westall's trial date had been set for May 13, however, with the McQueen case only recently concluded, that date was vacated.

Westall's attorney, public defender Brad Vaughn, has filed for a change of venue.

A conference call regarding the matter was held between attorneys and Judge Robert Hopkins Monday morning.

A status hearing on the change of venue matter is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. June 12 in Lawrence County Circuit Court, before Hopkins, who has presided over more than a dozen pretrial hearings for Westall since her arrest in late March of 2012.

To date, a change of venue has not been granted.

Attorneys for the prosecution are Lawrence County State's Attorney Chris Quick and special state prosecutor Michael Vujovich. Quick and Vujovich were also the attorneys in the McQueen trial.

Both McQueen and Helen Marie Westall pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

A sentencing hearing for McQueen is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 28 in Lawrenceville.

The McQueen trial lasted five days with a jury of 10 women and two men returning on verdict of guilty after about four hours of deliberation.
