Investigation continues into VU student's highway death
WESTPORT - An investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department is continuing into the death of a Vincennes University student, apparently struck by a passing vehicle early Tuesday in Lawrence County.

Authorities have identified the victim as 28-year-old Aaron James Hineman, of Palestine.

Hineman's body was found laying along Illinois Route 33, about one mile north of Westport. He was pronounced dead after being taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Hineman, who served in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom, was a second-year student at VU, where he was studying to be a machinist. The former Linton, Ind., man was discharged from the Army in 2006 and had worked in farming until deciding to return to school, according to reports from the Greene County Daily World. He is survived by his mother, Jean Hineman, of Worthington, and his father and stepmother, Jeff and Tena Hineman of Dugger.

The Knox County Coroner's office conducted an autopsy Wednesday. Results have not been released.
