Chili supper to benefit Bridgeport burn victim
BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport Boy Scout troop is hosting a chili supper fund-raiser from 4-7 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport Grade School.

The chili supper, which will be served for a freewill offering, is to benefit 9-year-old Dillon May, who suffered burns over 90 percent of his upper body during an accident.

A family friend said the Bridgeport Grade School students was backed up near a stove, warming himself after having been outside playing in the snow on Jan. 2. His clothing caught fire and he began to run around the house. His mother was finally able to take the boy to the floor and extinguish the fire.

May was taken to St. John's Children's Hospital in Springfield where he has already undergone two surgeries with the likelihood of more to come. The family friend said his parents are trying to stay at the hospital. The child could be in the hospital's burn unit for up to three months.
