Holiday events to kick off with parade
Area events for the holiday season will begin at 11 a.m. on Dec. 1 when Lawrence County will welcome Santa Claus with a parade in downtown Lawrenceville.

The parade will travel up 12th Street and end on the square where activities are planned. John Land will serve as parade marshal.

Santa will then be in the Candy Cane house on the courthouse lawn. He will remain here until he has visited with all of the children, according to members of the Sigma Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, which sponsors the parade.

Santa will also be at his home from 1-3 p.m. on Dec. 8, 15 and 22.

Several activities are planned for Saturday on the square including a cupcake walk, story-telling and a coloring contest.

Grade school-aged children can get a ticket at the bandstand for a drawing and a chance to win a girl's bike and a boy's bike. The drawing will be at 1 p.m. and winners must be present.

Hot chocolate, coffee and cotton candy will be sold. Profits will go into a fund to help feed the hungry.

The first grade students at Parkside Elementary School will perform a Christmas program in the gym at 2 p.m. Dec. 4.

The next day, Dec. 5,Vincennes University will host a Christmas Gala concert at the VU Red's Skelton Performing Arts Center. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. (EST) and is open to the public.

Second grade students at Parkside will perform at 2 p.m. in the gym on Dec. 7.

St. Francisville Christian Academy will perform their Christmas program on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

The Lawrenceville Elks Lodge 1208 will sponsor the annual Parade of Lights at 5 p.m. on Dec. 8. The parade will travel up 12th Street and will end at the square. There is no entry fee and prizes will be awarded. For more information call Bill Shick at 943-3985.

At 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 the Sumner Attendance Center band and choir will perform in their school gym.

On Dec. 11 the Kindergarten classes at Parkside will sing to friends and family at 2 p.m.

Parkside fourth grade students will leave the school and go caroling at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 12. Brent Watson and Sam Mikeworth will first go to Wal-Mart until 9 a.m. and travel to the United Methodist Village North Campus at 9 a.m. Denise Dickerson and Cara Atteberry's classes will go at 9:15 a.m. to Wal-Mart and then travel to United Methodist Village Main Campus at 9:45 a.m.

Third grade students at Parkside will sing Christmas songs at 2 p.m. on Dec. 14 in the gym.

Fifth grade students at Parkside will be caroling at the school beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Dec 17.

The Lawrenceville High School band and chorus will perform at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the auditorium.

Bridgeport Grade School Pre-K classes will perform at 10 a.m. for the morning class and 1 p.m. for the afternoon class on Dec. 19.

Also on the 19th the fourth grade students at SAC will perform at 8:45 a.m. in the gym.

Second and third grade students at BGS will have their program at 10 a.m. on Dec. 20.

The kindergarten classes will also perform at 1 p.m. on Dec. 20.

Parkview Junior High School band will have a Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 20.

All programs are free and open to the public.
