New E911 addresses for Bridgeport zip code 62417 released
BRIDGEPORT - New E911 addresses were mailed to all residential and commercial structures in the Bridgeport zip code 62417 today.

Residents or businesses that use a post office box may continue to use them as normal, according to Brent Perrott, director of Lawrence County E911.

"However, all residential and commercial structures must have an E911 address.  Emergency service agencies will rely on this information to efficiently respond to an emergency at a residence or business when the enhanced version of the 911 system goes online," Perrott said.

The United States Postal Service will stop delivering mail to current/old addresses after one year of residents or businesses receiving the notification cards. Perrott said to avoid any interruption in mail or services that require a current mailing address, residents or businesses must verify that the information on the card is correct.

If the information on the card is correct, then the new 911 address in blue on the card is the new address for that location, and residents or businesses do not have to contact Lawrence County E911 addressing.  It is recommended that people wait 30 days before notifying or making changes to utility services billing or any other agency or service that requires a mailing or physical address.  The 30 days allows time for possible corrections by the United States Postal Service and E911.

Also remember to change address on voter registration card at the Lawrence County Courthouse.

If the information on the card is not correct, residents or businesses must contact Lawrence County E911 Addressing within 10 days of receiving the notification/verification card.

Failure to do so may result in interruption of services that require a mailing address.  Contact Lawrence County E911 Addressing by email: or call 618-945-7119

Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and the address will be corrected.

If a residence or business in the Bridgeport zip code 62417 has not received a notification/verification card by Monday, Oct. 15,  contact Lawrence County E911 Addressing by email: or call 618-945-7119.

On Oct. 15, 2008, the Lawrence County Board enacted ordinance 2008-14 to establish the Lawrence County Emergency Telephone System Board as the Addressing Authority of Lawrence County.  This is in accordance of Illinois Statutes (55ILCS 5/5-1067 - from Ch. 34, par. 5-1067).  This ordinance also adds provisions for the numbering of buildings and dwellings.

In summary, the Lawrence County ordinance states that within 60 days after the receipt of notification of a new E911 address, the owner or occupant of that address must affix the number to the structure if visible from the road, or to a sign or number post if not visible from the road, in such a manner that the numbers can be clearly seen.

If the address sign needs to be located at the entrance to the structure from the road, it must be located on the same side of the road. There are restrictions on number height, 3-inches minimum, and must have a contrasting background color.  Addresses outside a municipality must use 3-inch high reflective numbers with a contrasting background color assigned by the fire district in which the structure is located.

(Lawrence Allison FD - 3-inch high reflective white numbers with red background.

Bridgeport FD - 3-inch high reflective white numbers with royal blue background. Denison FD - 3-inch high reflective white numbers with orange background.

Christy FD - 3-inch high reflective white numbers with light green background.)

Residents or businesses must also remove any old address numbers from the structure.

Rural Address Signs must be placed on same side of roadway as structure and at entrance drive leading to the structure from main roadway. The bottom edge of sign must be no lower than three feet above ground and clearly visible from both directions.  Signs must be 18 inches high by 6 inches wide with 3-inch high white reflective numbers.
