Three homes lined up for garden club's tour
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Lawrenceville Garden Club will conduct a tour of three local gardens on Sunday, in hopes of raising funds so that it may continue to maintain the Lawrence County Courthouse lawn.

From 1 until 4 p.m. Sunday, those on the tour can visit the residence of Russ and Jean Leo (11130 Country Club Road), Mark and Jamie Lockard (11146 Country Club Road) and Bob and Paula Hardacre (9595 North Frontage Lane). The cost is $5 per person. In addition, plants will be for sale at the tour stops.

"For as long as I've been involved with the garden club, we've never had a garden tour," said Jean Leo, a club officer. "This is a new effort, just to make money to help with maintenance at the courthouse."

All three of the homes on the tour are located in close proximity. Leo says parking will be available at the Lawrence County Country Club for visitors at her home, as well as the Lockard residence. Tourists can then make the short drive to the Hardacre garden. All who take the tour are asked to pay the admission at the Leo home, before then moving on.

"I'd like to think that everyone would want to come out and see something that's so beautiful," Leo said. "We're hoping that the weather will cooperate and people will be able to walk around and see nature at its best."

At the Leo garden, "softscapes" will be found in the landscaping, including ornamental Japanese Maples, a variety of hydrangeas, shrubs and dragonwing begonias.

Next door at the Lockard garden, "hardscapes" are featured as in a breezeway, pool and pool house. A variety of urns and containers will be filled with colorful plants.

The drive to the Hardacre garden will provide access to a working greenhouse, where Paula Hardacre does her seed and cutting propagations. The garden has plants started and then transferred from the potting house.

For more information, Leo can be reached at 943-5586.
