LAMA brings Baccalaureate service to LHS on May 12
LAWRENCEVILLE - The Lawrenceville Area Ministerial Association (LAMA) is sponsoring a Baccalaureate service for Lawrenceville High School on May 12 at 5 p.m. in the LHS auditorium.

"Until a few years ago, it hadn't been done at LHS for some time," said Russell Veldman, representative of the LAMA. "Nobody really knows why, it just kind of fell through the cracks; we are trying to bring that back to the community."

The Baccalaureate is a Christian worship service that includes short messages of encouragement for graduates including a group prayer. The list of all graduating seniors will be read. Shane and Nathan Sovdi will provide contemporary worship music during the service. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has volunteered to aide in the service as well.

"When the service ends, the pastors stay up front so as people leave, if there is a student who wants to talk to someone, to reach out for guidance, we have someone available," said Veldman. "We want to have that opening to give students someone to talk to, no pressure, if needed."

All graduating seniors, their families, friends, other students and the community are all invited and encouraged to attend. The goal of the service is to give thanks for God's grace and to encourage the students to go with him on their journey into the future.

"We want to become one of those expected events as part of the graduation package," said Veldman. "The goal is for the community to support the students, show that we want them to succeed."
