Library celebrates end of summer program
James “Jim” Allison, pastor of the Bridgeport First United Methodist Church, plays his banjo for area children during Thursday’s awards program for the Lawrence Public Library’s summer reading program “Paws to Read”. The event also featured a picture slideshow, snacks and prizes including a pair of Holiday World tickets.

Homefield Energy awarded aggregation contract
Mt. VERNON ­- Several Lawrence County communities and an unincorporated area earlier this year passed an electricity aggregation referendum.

Affordable Gas and Electric, the consultant for the process, has announced that Homefield Energy has been chosen as the winning bidder with a rate of $0.04388 cents/kwh for a period of nine months beginning with customer's September, 2014, billing cycle.

The rate is guaranteed through June, 2015.

There are 27 communities around the state participating in the aggregation.

St. Francisville Christian Academy leadership set for new school year
ST. FRANCISVILLE - St. Francisville Christian Academy will be re-opening next month for the 2014-15 school year under new leadership.

School officials said the new administration will include an Advisory Committee made up of the following members: Irene Viehe, Sylvia Moody, Julie Ivers, Ed Buchanan, Grand McDonald and Vicki Schrader. Stan Williams will be on the committee acting as liason.

Lawrence County 9-10 Little League all-stars advance to district finals
In Little League district tournament play Thursday night, the Lawrence County 9-10 year old all-star squad defeated Mount Carmel 17-1 in Olney to advance to tonight's 7 p.m. championship against the host club.

In Thursday's game, Dawson Holtz and Ryan Schultz each had three hits with Brenyn Winningham getting two hits. Hayden Hesler, Drevin Sanders and Anthony Jerrell each had a hit. Sanders and Camren Ray were each hit by a pitch twice.
