'When thunder roars, go indoors'
SPRINGFIELD - "When thunder roars, go indoors" is more than a catchy phrase about lightning safety.

It's a reminder that you're at risk of being struck by lightning if you're outdoors and can hear thunder. The app is designed to help families prepare for a wide array of natural and man-made disasters, and can help affected Americans recover, should disaster strike.

According to a recent survey by Pew Research, 40 percent of Americans have used their smartphone to look up government services or information.

Additionally, a majority of smartphone owners use their devices to keep up to date with breaking news, and to be informed about what is happening in their community.
